How Many Bags of 80 lb Concrete on a Pallet?

Short answer

A pallet of 80 lb concrete mix holds 42 bags. That is 3,360 lb of dry material, 25.2 cubic feet, or about 0.93 cubic yards of finished concrete.

Pallets of 60 lb bags hold 56, 50 lb bags hold 64, and 40 lb bags hold 80 — every pallet lands near the same total weight.

Counts are the standard Quikrete/Sakrete pallet quantities sold at Home Depot and Lowe's. Confirm with your store — regional suppliers and contractor packs vary.

Why pallets stop at about 3,300 lb

Pallet counts are set by weight, not bag count. Around 3,200–3,400 lb is what a standard pallet jack, store forklift, and delivery truck lift gate can handle safely, so every bag size is stacked to land in that band. It is also close to the limit of a half-ton pickup, which is why stores usually deliver pallets rather than let you load one.

A pallet is just under a cubic yard

This is the useful conversion: one pallet of any bag size makes roughly 0.9 cubic yards of concrete. A cubic yard needs 45 bags of 80 lb mix, so you are three bags short of a yard per pallet.

If your project needs a full yard, buy the pallet plus a few loose bags rather than two pallets. See how many bags of concrete are in a yard.

What a pallet will actually pour

  • 75 sq ft at 4 inches — a 10 × 7 pad, or most of a 10 × 10 slab
  • 50 sq ft at 6 inches
  • About 27 fence post holes at 10 in × 2 ft
  • 28 ft of footing at 16 in wide × 8 in deep

Buying a pallet vs loose bags

Pallet pricing is usually a few percent cheaper per bag and saves loading each one by hand, but you are committing to the whole quantity and taking on delivery. Compare the pallet price against ready-mix before you commit: at 0.93 cubic yards you are right at the crossover point where a short-load delivery starts to make more sense.

Estimating notes

  • Pallet counts differ between concrete mix, mortar mix, and fast-setting products — check the specific SKU.
  • Store pallets shrink-wrapped and off the ground; bags absorb moisture and harden if left uncovered.
  • Most stores charge a deposit or delivery fee on pallet orders.
