How many fence posts do I need?
Divide each fence run by the maximum post spacing. If the result is not whole, increase it to the next whole number.
For one straight run, add one post. A 100 ft run with an 8 ft maximum uses 14 posts.

The table includes two end posts. It does not include corners or gates.
Calculate the post quantity
Sections = run length divided by maximum spacing. If the result is not whole, increase it to the next whole number.
Line posts = sections minus 1. Then, add the posts at both ends of the run.
Corners and gates
One corner post can connect two fence runs. A gate usually has one hinge post and one latch post.
Stop the fence-run measurement at the gate opening. Put the two solid runs in the calculator separately.
Panel fences
Use the measured panel width as the maximum spacing. Put each panel joint at a post.
A cut panel can be necessary for a short final section. Include this panel in the material quantity.
Run endpoint check
Each run has two endpoints. An end post uses one endpoint. A corner post connects two endpoints.
Each gate adds two gate posts. The fence calculator compares these post positions with the number of run endpoints.
