Concrete Wall Calculator

Calculate the volume and weight of concrete needed for walls, including retaining walls and foundation walls. Enter the length, height, and thickness to get results in cubic yards, bags, and ready-mix truckloads. Purchasing slightly more concrete than the estimate reduces the probability of having insufficient material.

Examples

  • 20 ft wall @ 4 ft × 8 in: Typical small retaining wall volume estimate.
  • 40 ft wall @ 8 ft × 10 in: Larger wall; confirm reinforcement and formwork.

Estimating tips

  • Measure height from finished grade to the top of the pour and use the maximum height.
  • Add waste for overbreak and form changes (5–10% is common).
  • Confirm thickness and reinforcement requirements for your wall type and soil loads.
  • For tall walls, consider staged pours and ensure adequate bracing.
  • If your wall has pilasters or thickened sections, add that volume separately.

Assumptions

  • Bag yields and density vary by product; verify values on your bag or supplier spec sheet.
  • Cost estimates exclude delivery fees, taxes, and minimum loads.
